Information about Riverside City College staff job, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. After several years in the workforce, graduates in certain fields can end up with higher lifetime earnings than students who have degrees from elite colleges. The key is to focus on your technical skill set and build a portfolio of your work. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, but an applicant's past experience must be relevant to the particular job vacancy that the company needs to fill. Your resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements. Companies frequently publish rankings, offer various awards and incentives, and conduct monthly reviews of employee performance. Seek out a mentor with maturity and the connections to help you find the most direct path to advancement in your industry.

Personal connections that you make at work can outweigh job performance in determining who gets promoted. The main challenge in getting your degree is to choose a career that you will enjoy, and can pursue for many years. The job vacancies for website designers are still increasing, as retail firms move a greater percentage of their business online. You can locate your state government job bank to get assistance in many areas, like writing a resume, conducting a thorough job search, or researching company data to prepare for a job interview. Finally, as the healthcare industry expands its use of electronic medical records, protecting patients' personal data becomes a priority. Pursue your career interests and your earnings will increase naturally as you gain business experience. If you focus your degree choice on salary alone, there is the risk that you may suffer burnout and be forced to change careers later on.

Health Care Occupations

In the field of medical care, the following occupations are ranked in the fastest-growing job categories by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People’s lives often depend on their quick reaction and competent care. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities.

The following medical jobs provide challenging career paths, as well as competitive starting salaries with excellent advancement prospects. Continuing education will be required to keep abreast of the advancements in your chosen field.Medical laboratory technicians collect samples and perform tests to analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances. Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. Nuclear medicine technologists use a scanner to create images of various areas of a patient’s body. They prepare radioactive drugs and administer them to patients undergoing the scans. The radioactive drugs cause abnormal areas of the body to appear different from normal areas in the images.

If you can pass the rigorous training program, nursing jobs are increasingly available, due to the aging US population, as well as the increased quality of healthcare services. Registered nurses (RN), and licensed vocational nurses (LVN), provide patient care and emotional support to patients. Diagnostic medical sonographers use ultrasound imaging equipment that directs sound waves into a patient’s body, in a procedure commonly known as a sonogram, or echocardiogram, to diagnose medical conditions.

Job Interview

OK, so the company you are interested in has finally granted you a job interview. Now what? Will you prepare well, and have answers ready for the following common interview questions, or will you waste the opportunity and arrive unprepared? Your job interviewer has one priority in mind, to eliminate as many candidates as is possible, and as quickly as possible, leaving only a handful of the best-qualified applicants for the job. To pass the elimination round, you should know your strengths and weaknesses, and something about the company's products and services, at a bare minimum. Further, as your resume is your professional representation in writing, you would do well to emulate the sample resumes provided on the website. By looking at their professional resume layouts, you can avoid many of the mistakes new graduates make in over-preparing their resume. While your experience may be thin starting out in the workforce, your resume can emphasize academic and community achievements instead.

You need to know about the company's market position and their competitors, how the corporate culture has evolved over time, and what type of employee would do well in that work environment. Don't be shy to ask questions in the interview that show your enthusiasm, and in order to draw out information. You can interview your interviewer in effect, but don't go overboard or you'll come across as pushy. An excellent question-and-answer interview program is available, on the job interview page.

Nursing & Medical Job Listings

Earning a CNA degree (Certified Nursing Assistant) is the first step towards becoming a fully-qualified nurse. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to join the workforce quickly. The next step in a nursing career is to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). These are year-long programs, in which you'll work under an RN distributing meds, treating wounds, and providing basic patient care.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
